For many years, the roof of the Namib High School in Swakopmund had been leaking to a serious extent. The listed building, which is over 100 years old, was therefore endangered in its substance by water damage and mold infestation.
As a result, the school library and media center were no longer usable. In addition, the old shingles of the roof were contaminated with asbestos and endangered the environment. The Foreign Office in Berlin funded the repair of the roof of the Namib High School as part of its cultural preservation program.
Without this support, the Sonnenkinderprojekt would not have been able to cover the costs of the renovation. The work on the building has now been completed.
We would like to thank all those involved, especially the staff of the German Foreign Office in Berlin and the German Embassy in Windhoek, for their cooperation and support.
